I delved deeply a number of years ago into the idea behind a common cliche heard far a wide.
“God never gives you more than you can handle.”
Bull puckey. In case you’re wondering, well-intentioned people have been offering that tidbit up for a long time, and it cannot be found in the Bible. Why? Because it isn’t Biblical. I wrote about this in a blog titled: “God never gives you more than you can handle… You sure about that?” back in May of 2018. Later that year, my dear friend and Pastor lost his 16yr old son to heart failure. Everyone woke up in their household, but young Ronan on the morning of December 17, 2018. It was a trying time. And my brother in Christ and spiritual leader was given more than he could handle. He took time off while dealing with this tragic loss, and then came back to offer a sermon on the subject.

I look left, and I look right, and I see people experiencing things they simply can’t deal with without breaking down. Do we really need to wonder about whether life crushed Moses, Elijah, or Solomon? What about Job??? If you’re not thinking about how Job was hammered, you’re crazy.
Sometimes we let things build up into a real mess, then we find ourselves drowning, and we freak out. This is often our own fault, like it or not. Then there are times we’re thrust into turmoil, and we don’t handle it well. But, no matter what we may think, reliance on Him is the way, the truth, and the life. It isn’t you or me that does the work of sorting these things out. It is His Spirit that works through US that enables the heavy lifts to be accomplished. That is the key. Believe in Him and trust Him. Make your list of what needs dealt with, and assign priorities to the list items. Chip away at them and pray often. A good Pastor and a devoted church family will take you a long way. You’ll benefit from these tools, as life truly does become more than each of us can handle…
